The BFT Giuno ULTRA BT A50 Single is a heavy-duty 24V hydraulic swing gate automation system designed for single swing gates in residential, commercial, multi-residential and very high-use applications. Using a powerful hydraulic linear actuator, the system provides smooth, controlled and dependable operation while offering the strength and durability required for larger and heavier swing gates.

Designed for gate leaves up to approximately 5 metres long, the Giuno ULTRA BT A50 combines BFT's D-Track dynamic force-control technology with magnetic limit switches, adjustable opening and closing slowdown and selectable hydraulic locking. With a useful rod stroke of 392mm, approximately 20-second movement time through 90 degrees and a very intensive duty rating, it is particularly well suited to large driveway gates, commercial entrances, apartment complexes and applications requiring frequent automatic operation.

The Giuno ULTRA BT A50 Single system is designed to automate one swing gate leaf. Gate length, gate weight, hinge condition, pillar dimensions, mounting geometry, wind loading and the amount of force required to move the gate all need to be considered when selecting the correct automation system. The gate should always move smoothly and freely by hand before automation is installed.

Hydraulic Automation

Giuno Ultra swing motors use a hydraulic operating system, where pressurised hydraulic fluid is used to move the actuator and control the gate leaf. Hydraulic technology provides smooth, powerful operation and excellent durability under frequent use, making the Giuno Ultra range particularly suitable for larger, heavier and higher-use swing gate applications.

Wind Loads & Weight

The maximum gate weight and maximum leaf length should never be considered independently when selecting a swing gate motor. The Giuno ULTRA BT A50 can accommodate gate leaves up to approximately 5 metres long or weights up to approximately 800kg, but these maximum figures do not apply simultaneously.

For example, BFT specifies approximately 800kg capacity at shorter gate lengths, while a gate leaf approaching 5 metres is limited to approximately 300kg. BFT also specifies approximately 3 metres bearing 800kg without a maglock lock, and up to approximately 5 metres bearing 300kg with a suitable maglock lock.

Understanding wind loads is particularly important with large swing gates because solid, enclosed or heavily clad gate leaves can act like sails in strong winds. Wind pressure can create substantial additional forces against the gate, actuator, hinges, mounting brackets and gate posts even when the physical gate weight is within the motor's stated capacity.

Gate design, surface area, location, wind exposure, leaf length and structural strength should therefore all be considered when selecting the appropriate automation system. For large, solid or highly exposed gates, a different installation configuration or heavier-duty solution may be required even when the gate falls within the nominal weight and length specifications.
