BTF Swing Gate Motor Phobos BT B40 [DOUBLE]

The BFT Phobos BT B40 Double Arm is a powerful 24V swing gate automation system designed for double swing gates in residential, commercial and higher-use applications. Using two electromechanical linear actuators, the system provides smooth, controlled and dependable operation for two gate leaves while delivering strong push and pull performance.

Designed for gate leaves up to approximately 4 metres long per side, the Phobos BT B40 combines BFT's D-Track dynamic force-control technology with magnetic limit switches, opening and closing slowdown and mechanical locking. With a useful rod stroke of 470mm and approximately 2000N of thrust per actuator, it is well suited to larger driveway gates, double entry gates and applications requiring reliable everyday automation.

The Phobos BT B40 Double Arm system is designed to automate two separate swing gate leaves. Gate length, gate weight, hinge condition, pillar dimensions, mounting geometry, wind loading and the amount of force required to move each gate leaf all need to be considered when selecting the correct automation system. Both gate leaves should always move smoothly and freely by hand before automation is installed.

Electromechanical Automation

Phobos swing motors use an electromechanical linear actuator, where a 24V electric motor drives a mechanical screw system to extend and retract the arm. This provides smooth, reliable gate movement with strong push and pull force, making the Phobos range well suited to everyday residential and commercial swing gate applications.

Wind Loads & Weight

The maximum gate weight and maximum leaf length should never be considered independently when selecting a swing gate motor. As the gate leaf becomes longer, the loads placed on the actuator, hinges, mounting brackets and gate posts increase significantly, meaning the practical allowable gate weight may be reduced.

Understanding wind loads is particularly important with double swing gates because large, solid or enclosed gate leaves can act like sails in strong winds. Wind pressure can create substantial additional forces against both gate leaves, even when their physical weight is within the motor's stated capacity.

Gate design, surface area, location, wind exposure, leaf length and structural strength should therefore all be considered when selecting the appropriate automation system. For large, solid or highly exposed gates, a heavier-duty operator may be required even if the gate weight falls within the nominal motor capacity.
