BTF Swing Gate Motor Phobos BT B40 [SINGLE]

The BFT Phobos BT B40 is a powerful 24V electromechanical swing gate actuator designed for residential, commercial and higher-use swing gate applications. With a long 470mm useful rod stroke, strong 2000N push and pull force and smooth linear operation, the Phobos BT B40 provides dependable automation for larger swing gate leaves.

Designed for gate leaves up to approximately 4 metres long, the Phobos BT B40 combines BFT's D-Track dynamic force-control technology with magnetic limit switches, opening and closing slowdown and a mechanical locking system. Its 24V operation makes it well suited to applications requiring reliable and frequent automatic gate movement while maintaining controlled operation.

The Phobos BT B40 is supplied as a single actuator arm and is designed to operate one swing gate leaf. Gate length, gate weight, hinge condition, pillar dimensions, mounting geometry, wind loading and the amount of force required to move the gate all need to be considered when selecting the correct actuator. The gate should always swing smoothly and freely by hand before automation is installed.

Electromechanical Automation

Phobos swing motors use an electromechanical linear actuator, where a 24V electric motor drives a mechanical screw system to extend and retract the arm. This provides smooth, reliable gate movement with strong push and pull force, making the Phobos range well suited to everyday residential and commercial swing gate applications.

Wind Loads & Weight

The maximum gate weight or leaf length should never be considered independently when selecting a swing gate motor. The allowable gate weight decreases as the gate leaf becomes longer, and large or heavy gates may place significantly greater loads on the actuator, hinges, mounting brackets and gate posts.

Understanding wind loads is particularly important with swing gates because large, solid or enclosed gate leaves can act like a sail. Strong winds can create substantial forces against the gate even when the physical weight of the leaf is within the motor's stated capacity. Gate design, surface area, location, wind exposure, leaf length and structural strength should therefore all be considered when choosing the appropriate automation system.

For large, solid or highly exposed gates, a heavier-duty operator may be required even when the gate's actual weight falls within the nominal capacity of the Phobos BT B40.
